I finally got Aaron Cox's military records today. Very interesting. Seems he was proclaimed a deserter June
of 1865. It also shows, that in 1885, twenty years later, he was found not guilty of deserting. I cannot help
but wonder what the story was behind that! There is nothing in the records as to why the record was changed. I
also received the military records of Robert M. (B) Townsend. Since the records are on the longer sheets of paper, I
will probably go to Staples to get copies made and send them on. Anyway, thought you would find it slightly amusing...I
loved calling Danny at work (at Ft. Sill) and telling him his great-great grandfather was a deserter. His reply was
that it was ok, because he was a Yankee! lol My next step is sending off for the pension or bounty land applications.
I know Vertie Cox received pension. I have seen the records of those already, where she filed for them. There
should be more info in these than the military records. In May, Danny and I will be going to KY for my niece's graduation.
We will stop in IL at my son's as a halfway point, so we don't have to drive so far at a time. They are only about an
hour away from where Aaron and Emma Sellers Cox were married. I am hoping that I will be able to get more info on them then.
If I do, you can be sure I will pass it along. I had info on Emma Sellers at one time, but, for the life of me, I cannot
find it now. I know it's here...somewhere...lol If or when I find that info, I will pass it along too. Judy
PS
One thing I forgot to mention, according to Aaron's military records, he was 5' 5". It said he had dark hair, dark
eyes, and was dark complected...however, I also have a copy of family records that say he had blue eyes and was fair complected.
Go figure! Judy
I came across some info on Emma Sellers Cox, Vertie's mother. Emma's parents names were John and Catherine (Kitty)
Snyder Sellers, from Vermilion County, IL. John's parents were Cyrus and Anna Stump Sellers. I found
on Cyndi's List the Sellers line. This info came from Judy Stubbs. She and I had exchanged info back in 1997.
I have emailed her again, to see if she had come up with anything new. I will, of course, pass all this on. Judy

February, 2006
Hey there. Just wanted to drop you a note, thanking you for your work on this website. And, to let you know, early
February, after putting it off for many, many years, I finally sent off for the Major's military records.
I have some info on his service from when I went to AR a few years ago and did some research. Interesting, he and
his brother, J.D. Townsend, fought on opposite sides of the war. Robert and J.D.'s parents are Robert B. Townsend and Rishpa
Heitt. They are buried in a little cemetery in AR called Pleasant Valley.
At the time I did the Townsend research, I ran into a lady that had tons of info on the Glenn side, including a picture
of Samuel Glenn, Eliza's father. He was a tanner. At one time, there was a little town near Greenbriar, AR, called
Glenntown. Samuel himself was too old to fight in the civil war, but, I have a couple of stories that have been passed
down about how he hid his valuables in a tree to keep them from being stolen. Because he wouldn't tell the "war robbers"
where his valuables were, they slapped him, kicked him, beat him until he fell exhausted. On another note, Eliza Glenn's
mother died in 1852, due to an "affliction of the head". No one seems to know if that meant she had been kicked in the
head by an animal or what. That is just what the records show.
The witnesses for Robert and Eliza's wedding, were the children of Samuel's second wife, Julia Fuqua. (neighbors
of Samuel and Eliza's). Samuel is buried between Eliza and Julia in Thorn Cemetery, in AR.
I also sent off for the war records of Vertie Cox's father. He was in a unit in IN. Hopefully, we get
those records back soon also.
I don't know how much info you are wanting to put on this website, but I am more than willing to share what I have.
Anyway, thanks for the site. Good job! I am glad someone has the patience to sit down and put all that info
together!
See ya in July, God willing!
